Hussam
Ali

I work across every layer of the AI stack — energy, chips, infrastructure, models, and applications, in that order.

Now

Co-Founder, Offline Base — private AI on a drive you own.

Teaching

Adjunct Lab Technician / Educator — CUNY College of Staten Island.

Studied

B.E. Electrical & Computer Engineering — CSI, 2026.

Previously

TSMC · North Atlantic Industries · University of Stavanger

01 / The stack

From the power AI runs on to the tools people actually use.

I've worked on chips at TSMC and North Atlantic Industries, did AI-in-energy research in Norway, and spend my free time pushing small local models as far as they'll go.

AI for offshore wind, researched on site in Norway. Floating turbines and floating solar.

Energy

Process engineering in TSMC's Diffusion Module. Before that, North Atlantic Industries.

Chips

Small local models, pushed to the limit. And taught to 48 people with the Wi-Fi off.

Models

02 / Experience

From the fab floor to a fjord, and back to the lab.

Coming from electrical engineering, I care about the gap between "this works in theory" and "this actually runs on hardware in front of you."

  1. Co-Founder

    Offline Base

Making local AI easy for everyone: private, offline AI that runs from a USB drive or an always-on box at home.

    Jun 2026 — Now
    New York

  2. Adjunct Laboratory Technician / Educator

    CUNY College of Staten Island

Back at CSI, on the other side of the lab bench.

    Aug 2026 — Now
    Staten Island

  3. Graduate Student Researcher

    University of Stavanger

How AI and machine learning can advance offshore wind: predictive maintenance, system monitoring, performance optimization and data-driven decisions, with a focus on floating turbines.

    May — Jul 2026
    Stavanger, Norway

  4. Process Engineering Intern

    TSMC · Diffusion Module

Semiconductor process development in the Diffusion Module at TSMC Arizona.

    May — Aug 2025
    Phoenix, AZ

  5. Engineering Intern

    North Atlantic Industries

Worked on chips as an engineering intern on Long Island.

    Nov 2024 — May 2025
    Bohemia, NY

Education

    Brooklyn Technical High School

    GPA 4.0

    2018 — 2022

03 / Now

Offline Base · Co-Founder

Private AI on a drive you own. It keeps answering with the Wi-Fi off.

Local, open, small models are good enough for most everyday work. Running them on your own machine means nothing to upload, no monthly bill, and no model that gets retired out from under you.

  • Base DrivePrivate AI from a USB drive. $19.99, coming soon.
  • Base RouterAn always-on private AI box for your home.
04 / Highlights

Fast, practical AI systems people can actually use.

Winner · Cerebras × Google DeepMind Gemma 4 Hackathon

Track 1: Multiverse Agents — Best Multi-Agent + Multimodal Use Case.

The biggest hackathon Cerebras has ever hosted. Built with Ethan Castro and Hazem Abo-Donia; we submitted four projects, including the winning multi-agent, multimodal system.

Built close to the metal.

  1. P-01

    C++ Neural Network Inference Engine

A high-performance C++ inference runtime for CPU and accelerator-style execution, with multithreading, memory pooling and optimized matrix operations. Exposed as a shared library for larger systems.

  2. P-02

Local LLM Agent on an Edge Device

An on-device LLM agent on an NVIDIA Jetson Orin Nano, with an E-Ink drawing pad for input. Evaluated across prompts, tools and MCPs. With Ethan Castro.

  3. P-03

    Hybrid Local / Cloud Router

Answers locally when it can; on spotty Wi-Fi it batches 100 prompts to a larger model in parallel and returns them in under 3 seconds.

  4. P-04

    CSI HPCC Docs ↗

Student-facing documentation for the College of Staten Island's high-performance computing cluster and AI tooling, built with Ethan Castro.
